St. Joseph CSR Intervention
St. Joseph Educational and Welfare Society is registered under the Society Registration Act, 1958 and it started its mission and vision into reality in 1998 since then, St. Joseph has expanded its socially useful activities leap and bound. Now it has more than 12 schools in seven Districts in three States including metro cities like Gurugram and operates in many NGO projects with the help of its dynamic team of volunteers.
St. Joseph has pioneered the fusion of skill and technology based on modern scientifically developed modules. To make its vision further into reality, North India’s first E-School is established by St. Joseph which was categorized as first “Microsoft Showcase School”.
For achieving the true meaning of education, learning skill should be a major benchmark that is translated into action by St. Joseph. The Group has established Skill Development Centers in various Districts, where unemployed youths from rural areas were imparted the skill training in defined sectors that enabled them to get good jobs or make their own career. The School students were also promoted to involve in various skill programs due to which they have already set an example in the vicinity as they got many accolades in skill-based areas like robotics. The IITs of India have invited students of St. Joseph many times to demonstrate their skill expertize.
CSR INTERVENTION
St. Joseph Educational and Welfare Society is the most popular and active society as it is the nodal organization to implement national and international CSR projects in all the states of India. Currently, the Society is involved in training and facilitating Saree weavers’ women on a large scale. It is one of the massive projects of women empowerment because it is a long-awaited disruption of traditional non-technological Saree weaving unorganized sector of women. Currently, in women empowerment sector, the Society has taken up training and market access for women in Saree weaving, Handicrafts items, soil-based pottery, and paper mache.

This is a high time to be concerned about nurturing the philanthropic attitude among students right from the beginning and always with schooling. At the managerial level of St. Joseph Group, there is a very active team working 24*7 to implement various works related to the social cause. In this sector, St. Joseph Group is leading NGO/Society to implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects funded by national or international organizations/companies.
The following activities are prescribed by the government of India to be included by companies in their corporate social responsibility policies (Under Schedule VII):
- Eradicating extreme hunger and poverty;
- Promotion of education;
- Promoting gender equality and empowering women;
- Reducing child mortality and improving maternal health;
- Combating human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, malaria and other diseases;
- Ensuring environmental sustainability;
- Employment enhancing vocational skills;
- Social business projects;
- Contribution to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government or the State Governments for socio-economic development and relief and funds for the welfare of the Scheduled
- Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, minorities and women; and such other matters as may be prescribed.
Amongst the above mentioned, St. Joseph has been taking up the CSR intervention in following ways
PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERING WOMEN:
The Group has been actively working in this sector for which it has an expert team and some expert outside agencies too like recently the Group has made ties with an MNC at Delhi to help them in executing their funds. Currently, the Group is implementing a big project of Women Empowerment under CSR funded project in which it is imparting the skill training to women weavers of rural areas to make good quality Kota Saree. By implementing this program, St. Joseph successfully minimizes the resources/expenses and maximizes the production/revenue for women who are making Kota Saree. Along with it, St. Joseph is providing the market place to these women, good accessibility of the product to market and branding/promoting the product to be welcomed in the market to enhance their personality and communication skills by teaching them spoken English. By all these efforts, the women empowerment in real sense has become the reality in targeted areas of CSR project implemented by St. Joseph Educational and Welfare Society.



PROMOTION OF EDUCATION:
The volunteers of St. Joseph Group have done two pilot projects in this field like they are constantly and actively imparting training of IT to the students of Government Schools to be enabled with IT tools. Computer literacy CSR JANO project was started in September 2016 in Sr. Sec. School Ranpur and Government Secondary School, Police Line, Kota for three months. In which students visited our school, they were taught software and hardware skills. They were taught the basics of computer’s and now we plan to establish computer labs and smart classes in government schools for better teaching and learning experience for the children of other government schools too. With this, we are looking forward to training the local volunteers to deliver computer education in government schools by our uniquely designed peer to peer and train the trainers for the program and monitor the schools on regular basis.




ERADICATING EXTREME HUNGER AND POVERTY:
Volunteers of St. Joseph gives regular visit to Orphanages and various old age homes to empower and spread happiness amongst the poorest of the poor and the person standing at the last in the queue at par with the society and by providing medical consultancy, awareness about healthy living and warmth of togetherness.





PROMOTING HEALTH CARE:
The volunteers of St. Joseph Group always lead in spreading awareness in slums (Kachhi Bastis) about health, hygiene and prohibition of plastic, Swachhta Abhiyan, construction of toilets in slums and government schools, providing the facility of clean drinking water in government schools.



EMPLOYMENT ENHANCING VOCATIONAL SKILLS:
St. Joseph’s has provided training to around 1000 youth from rural areas in sectors of IT (Data Operators) and Building & massioning.



SOCIAL BUSINESS PROJECTS:
We want to empower the tribal people of SAHARIYA tribe near Baran district of Rajasthan by skilling them and educating them



OUR MENTOR
Our Chairman, Dr. Ajay Sharma visited an institution named Nescot at Ewell Epson in England and was hosted Director Mr. Chana and his aim to visit this institution was to explore first handedly , how the top institutions in England are delivering Skill Development to their aspirations and what are the benchmarks in relation to their infrastructure and performance.
The basic sectors which they have are cooking and chattering center with special emphasis on culinary expertise and basic etiquettes of hospitality business, skin and hair care unit and Beauty salon unit with spa training, mansion section and brick making, data-entry DTP training center, automobile station, carpenter station and apart from this, they have courses like helper for Dentist, helpers for Radiologist, Helpers for Clinical, etc. which have very big markets in India too.
Dr. Ajay Sharma is wishing that we Indians should adopt many of their practices and ensure the employability of our students and focus on the entrepreneurship prospects for them too.
